Keywords: visual stimulation, tactile stimulation, HOH assist, reach and grasp, midline orientation, bilateral coordination, pincer grasp, fine motor
Materials: Christmas tree template attached and printed 3 sheets per tree, glue, scissors, embellishments (pom poms, sequins, markers all optional)
Directions: Print out 3 sheets per tree and cut them out, have clients scribble green marker onto the paper to give texture to the trees.
Fold each of the six paper Christmas trees in half (color side in). Use a glue stick to add glue to one of the folded halves of a Christmas tree. Then attach another folded half onto the glue, aligning the pieces together. Continue gluing and adding the Christmas tree halves until all six are attached. Then add glue to the two ends and attach them together to finish forming the 3D Christmas tree.
Glue on any embellishments, add stickers to decorate.
This festive activity provides a display that is 3D for visual and tactile stimulation. When scribbling with markers, clients will need to tolerate HOH assist to reach and grasp, encouraging repetitive active movements of their UEs. Folding paper in half brings hands to midline and incorporates the use of both hands, gluing and decorating the tree (with stickers) encourages pincer grasp and fine motor development.
