3D Bird

Materials: colored construction paper, googly eyes (optional), scissors, glue

Directions: fold construction paper in half and cut out a semicircle from one piece, fold another in half and cut out some raindrop shapes for the wings, cut out a triangle for the beak and a rectangle for the tail. Glue the wings on each side of the semicircle, glue the tail and beak to each end, glue on googly eyes or draw on eyes for the bird. If you want to add texture to the wings, you can fold them accordion style before gluing them on. See video for more details.

This activity encourages clients to make decisions about color choices, it provides great visual stimulation with the vibrant colors, and makes a lovely piece to decorate the house. If clients are able to tolerate HOH assist to cut, or hold onto the paper while you assist with cutting, that helps to bring hands to midline and encourages bilateral coordination. Folding the feathers accordion style encourages pincer grasp and finger isolation as well as provides a tactile component the activity to enjoy.
