Keywords: bilateral coordination, HOH assist, auditory stimulus, decision making
Materials: paper plate, scissors, glue, googly eyes, colored construction paper, paint (optional)
Directions: Cut a paper plate in half for the nest. You can have the clients tear up some brown colored construction paper and glue it to the plate for texture. Cut up a few colored ovals for the birds and small triangles for the beak, glue them to the nest and add googly eyes or draw them in to look like birds in a nest.
This springtime activity welcomes the arrival of more birds. The tearing paper for the nest allows clients to work on bilateral coordination, using both hands to tear up pieces of paper, as well as provides opportunities for HOH assist and auditory stimulus. It encourages decision making to select the colored birds and to decorate it. Allows for fine motor practice to glue down scraps of paper, googly eyes, and beak.
