Painted Fruit and Veggie Rocks

Keywords: tactile stimulation, HOH assist, bilateral coordination, decision making

Materials: Smooth stones, acrylic paint in various colors (or paint pens), googly eyes, permanent marker

Directions: Determine which shape of rock to use to form which veggie and fruit. Paint the base color all over the rocks, decorate with googly eyes, permanent black marker for facial expressions and adding details. Use green paint to give them little stems.

This activity is fun to encourage gardening and being outdoors and decorating the soil. Holding the smooth stones will provide tactile input to client’s hands, comparing smooth versus rough, rounded versus sharp edges. Tolerating HOH assist is required to paint and decorate them, encouraging the use of bilateral hands to complete the activity as well as making decisions about fruit and veggie choices/color choices come with this activity.
