Directions: Have clients decorate the paper helicopter with a variety of patterns, especially on the two “blades” so you can watch the patterns spin. Cut out along all the solid lines, fold the blades in opposite directions, fold the bottom so the two sides overlap in the middle, fold the tail up along the dotted line and place a paperclip there. Have clients toss their helicopter up in the air and watch the rotators spin as it descends.
This activity gives clients an opportunity to think of patterns and pick out colors to use. For clients who are able to tolerate HOH assist for cutting/scissor use, this activity is perfect due to the straight, long cuts needed to make that are simple. Folding paper allows clients to bring hands to midline and isolate fingers to ensure there is a crease. Finally, the finished product flying down provides visual stimulation through colors and bold patterns.
