Pom Pom Caterpillar

Keywords: HOH assist, cut and trace, pincer grasp, hand strengthening, fine motor skills, visual stimulation, tactile stimulation

Materials: Green construction paper, colored pompoms, marker, glue, googly eyes

Directions: Print out leaf template either on green paper, or use it to trace onto a green construction paper and cut it out. Have clients pick out colored pompoms and glue them in a line onto the leaf. Add googly eyes onto the first pompom and draw some lines onto the leaves to give it veins.

As it is caterpillar and butterfly season, it will be neat for the clients to make some caterpillars on leaves. This activity allows them to tolerate HOH assist to trace and cut out the basic leaf template. It also encourages pincer grasp through picking up small pompoms. It works on hand strengthening to squeeze out glue from the bottles as well as fine motor skills to place the pompoms in a line. The end result provides visual and tactile stimulation.
