Sensory Snowman Bag

Keywords: sensory activity, fine motor, hand strength, finger isolation, tactile stimulation, visual stimulation

Materials: gallon ziplock bag, shaving cream, clear hair gel, pom poms, pipe cleaners for arms (cut to size), buttons, foam, googly eyes, sharpie, packing tape

Directions: Draw the outline of a snowman on the ziplock bag (3 round circles), have clients pick up buttons, pom poms, googly eyes and other small decorate objects and place it into the bag. Provide HOH assist to squeeze the clear hair gel until you can get a thin layer of gel throughout the bag, add a few squeezes of shaving cream for the snowy color. Zip up the bag and tape the opening shut so the contents won’t seep out. Allow them to squeeze and enjoy.

This sensory bag is a fun way to enjoy a winter activity as well as receive sensory stimulation without a mess. Picking up the little pieces works on FM skills, squeezing bottles of hair gel and foam builds hand strength. Encouraging engagement with the materials and assembling the snowman uses finger isolation to point and push pieces around. This provides tactile and visual stimulation.
