Keywords: visual stimulation, reach and grasp, crossing midline, pincer grasp
Materials: Cardboard or card stock cut into a large egg shape (template attached), painters tape or masking tape, acrylic paint and paint brushes
Directions: Have clients unroll the tape and place it across the paper in varying directions until many sections are created. Using a paintbrush, have clients select a few colors to paint into the blocks of paper, encourage them to make patterns and choices, paint all the white areas and let it dry. Have clients use pincer grasp to peel off the painters tape to reveal colored egg pattern.
This activity celebrates the upcoming Easter holiday and provides visual stimulation and decor. Selecting colors encourages decision making and pattern making if applicable. By brushing and applying paint with a brush, it encourages active grasp and elbow extension to reach the paper, crossing midline to paint across the page, and tolerating HOH assist to do so. When the project is dry and ready to have the painters tape peeled back, encourage clients to use pincer grasp to do so and watch the design unfold.
