Winter Pop-Up Art

Keywords: color contrast, decision making, HOH assist, bilateral coordination, mid-line, in hand manipulation

Materials: Colored construction paper, white printer paper, glue, scissors, marker

Directions: Accordion fold (back and forth) the white paper about 2/3 of the way, then fold it in half and glue it together on the folded part. Cut out a dome like shape from a colored paper and glue it behind the white folded paper and make it stand up. Cut out squares and triangles for a house and trees, glue them to the background as well as along the different folded parts to create a 3D/pop up effect.

This activity is visually appealing for the clients, to view the 3D pop up effect and see the color contrasts. It encourages decision making to choose colors for different items, as well as tolerating HOH assist to color/cut. Folding paper requires bilateral hand coordination and working at midline, tolerating HOH assist as well to manipulate the paper and flip it around while folding.
